The Arrival
(Loki x Reader Ch. 1)

“Why would you lay your life on the line?”  This voice was soft yet oddly chilling.

“No!  You can’t leave!”  Though frantic and heartbroken, this voice was smooth and somewhat calm.  It was obviously a man.  The voice was familiar, but you couldn’t place who he was…

“What is your purpose in this world, mortal?”  Yet another strange voice that you couldn’t identify.  It was deep and menacing.  You felt a chill roll down your spine.

Everything was dark…very dark.  You could hear so many voices, but you saw no one.  Something cold and wet tapped against your cheek as the second voice spoke once more.  It was muffled and distorted.  You couldn’t make out the words…

“Hey…Hey, are you awake?”  Your eyes fluttered open only to be blinded by the sunlight.  You could see the silhouette of a man.  As you shielded your eyes you saw that he was kneeling beside you.  His eyes were like two bright emeralds; they gleamed with a glow that could only be described as mischievous.  The sharp curve of his jawline was framed by long, dark hair that was carefully styled to perfection.  As your eyes trailed down his torso, you were blinded by the glare of the sunlight off of a silver helmet that he had tucked carefully under his arm.  Two elegant horns swept back from it and curled slightly, like a ram’s rack.  You caught a glimpse of them as you peered around his side.  That wasn’t the only thing reflecting the sun, however.  He was wearing a silver breast-plate that was beautifully polished.  Black leather sleeves clung tightly to his slender arms, and a forest green cape was tossed gently in the wind.  You opened your mouth to speak, but stopped as the stranger stood and glanced over his shoulder at a group of men that weren’t very far away.  They seemed to be inspecting the area.  Their faces were gravely serious.
You tried to lift yourself into a sitting position, but failed miserably as a sharp pain protruded your skull.  You lifted your hand to your head and sucked air through your teeth as you found the spot of the injury.  Your eyes squeezed shut instinctively, but when you opened them again you saw a pale hand in front of your face.

“My Lady?”  You glanced up to see the dark-haired man watching you expectantly.  He flashed you a charming smile.

As you took his hand, you nearly gasped.  His skin was as cold as ice.

“Is something the matter, My Lady?”  The man asked calmly.  You blushed as you realized that you were staring stupidly at your interlocked fingers.

“N-No.  Sorry,” you muttered.  With a quick jerk, the mysterious stranger pulled you to your feet.

“Brother!”  A voice called from nearby.  It was loud and booming like thunder.  You staggered a bit as a sudden wave of vertigo hit you.

“Here,” the dark-haired man said with a note of irritation in his voice.  He placed a hand on your shoulder to steady you.  You shivered slightly and crossed your arms over your chest.  Even through the fabric of your long-sleeve shirt you could feel his icy touch.  You glanced past him to see a man with golden hair and azure eyes approaching you.  He was tall and burly, with broad shoulders and a strong jaw.  His chest was clad in black armor and his arms were covered in chainmail.  In one hand he held a large hammer of sorts and in the other he gripped a jacket.  Under further inspection you realized that it was yours.

“That’s mine,” you said, your voice sounding a bit strained.  You cleared your throat and held out your hand expectantly.  The burly man handed it to you, his eyes serious.

“Who are you?  How did you come to be here?”  He asked, his loud voice causing you to flinch involuntarily.

“I wish I knew…”  You muttered.  “I just woke up and here I was…wherever here is.”

“Asgard,” The dark-haired man told you gently.

“Right.”  You nodded.  “Thanks.”

There was an awkward silence as the other men approached you.  They were all wearing armor, but it looked rather cheap compared to the two men before you.  As your eyes flickered between them, you couldn’t help but notice that there was no resemblance.  They were both handsome but you never would have guessed that they were brothers.

“What should we do?”  One of them men asked uncomfortably, his voice husky and dry.  The golden-haired man stroked his chin thoughtfully.

“Might I suggest we take her to father?”  The dark-haired man suggested.  He shifted his weight slightly and arched one of his dark brows.

“Yes…I think that wise,” the burly man agreed.  He turned on his heel, his crimson cape swirling around him.  “I shall take her.”

Your gaze flickered to the man’s brother just in time to catch his expression shift from placid to annoyed.  His jaw twitched slightly.

“I shall come as well.”  You felt his cold hand move from your shoulder to your elbow as he pulled you in the direction of the castle.  “Speak little and be mindful of your attitude,” he whispered.  His voice was cultured and soothing…but also familiar.  You cocked your head to the side.  The mysterious man glanced back at you over his shoulder with an annoyed expression.  “Do you understand?”

You nodded.  “Yes.  Thank you.”

The man turned his attention back to where he was going, but you saw him roll his eyes and heard a sound that was suspiciously similar to a snort.

The halls of the castle were so beautiful, that you were in awe.  Everything was so perfect and polished.  It was unreal.  You glanced at your guide and saw that his eyes were glued on a pair of ridiculously large doors that awaited you at the end of the hall.  He stopped a few feet away and inhaled deeply, running his fingers through his thick locks.  He then took his helmet from beneath his arm and placed it on his head.  You swallowed hard as the man’s gaze flickered to you and he began examining you with careful scrutiny.  You felt more than a little self-conscious as you slipped your arms into your (favorite color) jacket.

“Don’t slouch.”  The man commanded gently.  You felt one of his hands straighten your right shoulder and the other pull forwards on the small of your back.  Your breath hitched in your throat and you felt a blush blossom across your cheeks.  The man noticed.  His lips twisted into an impish grin.  “That’s better.”

The doors slid open with a loud creak that echoed through the spacious hall.  Inside you saw a large man sitting on a glistening throne with a staff in one of his enormous hands while the other rested on the arm of his throne.  His face was wrinkled and worn.  A long, white beard trailed down his face all the way to his stomach.  One eye was covered by a black eye-patch and the other watched you with the intensity of a hawk.  On his head was a helmet with ivory horns sprouting from the sides.  They curled as they stretched outward.  His shoulders were covered in a variety of pelts that were much too large to be anything smaller than a bear.  Beside him was a beautiful woman with a small frame and blond hair that was curled artfully around her face.  Though she was void of any expression, her eyes were kind and loving; she reminded you of your mother.  On the other side of the throne you saw the burly man from before.  His stern gaze was unnerving.  You jumped slightly as you felt your guide’s cool breath wash over your face and neck as he whispered, “Stop gawking and move.”

You approached the throne slowly.  The man who had led you there made his way around the room to stand beside his brother, but not before stopping before the man sitting on the throne, placing his fist over his heart, and falling to one knee.

“Father,” he greeted him as he bowed his head.  The enormous man smiled slightly, his visible eye twinkling with sudden adoration.  He nodded in approval.

“Loki,” he said.

You arched an eyebrow.  Loki?  The name fit the dark-haired stranger.  He glanced at you before taking his place beside his brother.

You felt stupid standing before the enormous man on the throne.  He and the beautiful woman beside him stared at you as if expecting something.  Loki cleared his throat as if trying to gain your attention.  You glanced at him and saw him tap his fist against his heart.  You nodded understandingly.

You dropped to one knee and placed your trembling fist over your heart.  You glanced at Loki and saw him shake his head slightly.  He approached you and knelt beside you, tapping your leg.
“Wrong knee,” he pointed out flatly.  You blushed and switched your stance awkwardly.  Loki knelt beside you and copied your motion, sensing your increasing nervousness.  He thought you might pass out if you weren’t calmed in some way.  The blond woman smiled gently and placed her hand on the enormous man’s shoulder.  He cleared his throat.

“Thor has told me the situation,” he said.  His voice was loud, but not quite as thunderous as his fair-haired son.  He nodded towards the burly man with the hammer.  “Tell me, what is your name?”

“______,” you answered.  As much as you tried, you couldn’t keep your voice from trembling.  Loki sighed and, with his free hand, patted your back encouragingly.  You shivered a bit, but it did seem to soothe your nerves.  You mustered up enough courage to speak again.  “M-Might I ask who you are?”

The man sitting on the throne arched one of his bristling eyebrows in surprise, but his expression became much gentler than it was before.  He leaned forwards a bit.

“I am Odin, king of Asgard.  This is my wife Frigga and my sons, Thor and Loki,” he explained.  Your eyes widened and your jaw dropped.  You bowed your head.

“Sorry…”  You murmured weakly.  “I didn’t…I mean, I never…”

Odin chuckled and stroked his beard idly.  He relaxed back into his throne and gestured to Thor.

“Do you think she is a danger to us?”  He asked.  Thor glanced at you and frowned slightly.  You tried to swallow, but realized your mouth was dry.  Your head began spinning and you felt weightless.  The light in the room shifted and twisted the objects around you until you became nauseous and had to close your eyes.  Thor shook his head.

“I’m not sure.  Something seemed off about the area where we found her.  I sensed something…but I’m not sure what it was.  And it disappeared as quickly as it came,” he explained with a perplexed expression.  You weren’t listening, however.  There was a high-pitched hum piercing your ears.

“L-Loki?”  You murmured under your breath, your eyes still squeezed shut.

“Hmm?”  Loki shifted his gaze to you and frowned, the smooth skin of his pale forehead creasing slightly.

“I don’t…I don’t feel so…”  You felt your body shift to the side and something cold caught your head before you hit the floor.  Your senses started fading away.  You were becoming numb.  The cold pressure against your skull and shoulder began to disappear.  You heard several sharp inhales and a voice, close to your ear, whispered something in some sort of language that you had never heard before.  It was somewhat musical…you thought it might have been the most beautiful thing you’d ever heard.  Before you slipped into total unconsciousness, a thought crossed your mind.  ‘His voice…’  You remembered the voice that you had heard in your dream.  ‘It was him.’

To be continued…
In honor of the new Thor movie, I thought I'd try my hand at a Loki x Reader. I was listening to "Second Chance" by Shinedown when the storyline hit me xD. I absolutely love Norse Mythology and how Marvel portrays Loki. I hope you all enjoy it and I look forwards to reading your comments :D.

If someone told me to slouch, their head would be off. I don't care who they are even Loki.
