Attention
(Death the Kid x Reader 2)

(Author’s note:  This was a request from “PrincessVictini” n_n!  I hope you all enjoy it~!)

“What about Saturday?”  His voice was slightly muffled through the speaker of your cell-phone.  You flipped the page of your book and nodded absently.  Your brows furrowed, however, as you remembered that you had promised to cook dinner for your family that day.  Your parents were always working and they wanted for you to take more responsibility around the house.  You sighed.

“Can’t.  I promised my parents I would fix dinner,” you admitted.  You felt so guilty.  It had been two weeks since your big confession and you hadn’t even gone on a real date with Kid yet.  There was a slight pause.  “Sorry…”

“No problem.  Why don’t I come and help you cook?”  Kid suggested.  You smiled brightly and closed your book, rolling around so that you were lying upside-down on your bed.

“Really?”

“Of course.  I’ll come around four.  Is that acceptable?”  He was as polite as ever.  You nodded, even though you knew that he couldn’t see you.

“Sure!”

                                                                         ~The next day~
You decided to wear something symmetrical since Kid was coming over.  True, you still loved driving him crazy, but he was being so sweet that you thought you might as well make things as pleasant as possible for him.  You pulled your hair back into a sloppy bun and pinned your bangs back.  You had just finished pre-heating the oven when you heard the doorbell ring.

“Coming~!”  You called as you made your way to the entry-hall.  You didn’t have to look to see who it was.  You flipped the latch and swung the door open with a bright smile on your face.  “Good evening.”

Kid smiled awkwardly.  He shifted his weight back and forth from his left foot to his right foot.  “Good evening.”

There was a slight pause.  You cleared your throat and stepped aside.  “Would you like to come inside?”

Kid nodded.  “Yes, please.”

Since he was your best friend before he became your boyfriend, he had been inside your house before, but it seemed much more awkward now that you were dating.  His eyes flickered around the room as he measured the symmetry of the furniture.  You peered around his shoulder and saw that he was holding a bouquet of roses behind his back.

“Are those for me?”  You asked curiously.

Kid blushed slightly and handed them to you.  “Y-Yes.  Of course.”

You smiled and headed towards the kitchen with Kid trailing behind you.  He watched as you searched for a vase in a cabinet beside the stove.  “They’re lovely.”

Kid leaned against the counter and picked up a box of noodles that was lying beside the stove.  He arched an eyebrow curiously.  “What are we cooking?”

Once you found a vase, you immediately filled it with water and placed the roses in it.  After a moment of admiring them, you turned to your cooking partner.  “Lasagna!”

Kid stared at you with a flat expression.  He blinked a few times.  “Do you have a recipe?”

You rolled your eyes and snorted loudly.  “Of course I have a recipe!  My mom makes this stuff all the time!”

“So I suppose you usually help her, right?”  Kid asked hopefully.  “If so, this should be fairly easy.”

An anime sweat-drop slid down your forehead.  “Well….you see….I’m not a big cooking fan.”

Kid sighed slightly and let his shoulder slump.  His eyebrow twitched.  ‘This…is not going to turn out well.’

                                                                         ~Later that evening~
“Are you sure it’s done…?”

“Hmm…I think it is…”

“But it’s…sort of an odd color, isn’t it?”

You glanced at Kid and scratched your neck awkwardly.  “I’m sure it’ll taste fine!  Plus, everyone’s waiting in the dining-room so…”

“Let’s just get this over with,” Kid sighed.  He began rummaging through one of the drawers for a knife.  You poked the lasagna with your index finger and watched as it jiggled throughout the whole pan.  You blinked a few times.  “Something wrong, ______?”

“N-No!  Of course not!”  You laughed.  “Everyone’s going to love it!”

As you plopped a hefty serving of lasagna onto your parents’ plates you saw them exchange a sickly glance.  They poked it with their forks experimentally before chopping off a small portion and eating it.  You had never seen someone turn so green before…

“Well…?”  You asked nervously.  Your father smiled awkwardly.

“Well it’s…it’s certainly…”

“It tastes like dirty socks,” your mother stated rather bluntly.  She stood.  “Your FATHER’S dirty socks.”

You opened your mouth to speak but before any words could come out, she grabbed your wrist and started dragging you towards the kitchen.  Kid watched with a dumbstruck expression.  He could still hear your voices from inside the kitchen.

“Either you learn to cook or you’re never going to get married!”  Your mother exclaimed.  There was a loud banging sound as she slammed a pot down onto the stove.

“But Mooooooom!”

“No ‘buts’!”  She commanded.  “Now pick up that cook-book and let’s get to work!”

Kid opened his mouth, then closed it.  He glanced at your father, who was still sitting at the dining-room table, and smiled awkwardly.

“I guess I’ll just-”

“You’ll stay,” your father said sternly.  He pointed his fork at Kid.  “You’re bound to be part of this family one day, and as part of this family you are NOT to leave me alone with those two when they get like this.  Do you understand?”

An anime sweat-drop slid down Kid’s forehead.  “Yes, Sir…”

Suddenly, there was a loud crashing sound.

“NO, NO, NO!  Stir!  Don’t toss!”  Your mother’s voice carried throughout the house.  Kid glanced at your father and blinked a few times as he saw him shoving his arms into a coat.

“What are you waiting on, boy?  Let’s get out of here!”

Kid swallowed nervously and headed towards the door.  He heard another crashing sound just before he exited the house.  ‘What have I gotten myself into…?’
