~You'll Be In My Heart~
Alois Trancy x Reader
The rain felt like tiny needles pricking your exposed skin. It drenched your clothing, making it stick uncomfortably to every curve of your body. The scent of iron and gunpowder was heavy in the air. As you turned, you blinked several times to clear the raindrops from your lashes. He looked so small gathered in the corner of the alley. His knees were pulled up to his chest, his golden hair was sticking to his face in thick strands. As you knelt in front of him, you saw tears mingled with the raindrops that cascaded down his cheeks. A twinge of pity ran through your veins as you reached out and touched his hot skin. You could feel his heartbeat pumping large amounts of blood quickly throughout his tiny frame. Goosebumps dotted his flesh, even though it felt so heated. As you curled your fingers around his, you felt no response whatsoever.
"Alois?" Your voice was soft and gentle. Alois didn't look at you. His azure eyes were fixed on the gun in your (preferred hand). The barrel was still hot from the shots. The raindrops hissed and sputtered as they touched it. As you realized what had the boy so rattled, you tossed the weapon over your shoulder. Alois flinched a bit as it clattered to the ground beside a large trash-bin. "Alois, it's okay."
With your now free hand, you peeled a few strands of hair away from Alois' face and tucked them behind his ears. It was odd seeing him like this. He was usually such a brat. He was eccentric and random; he always caused you so much trouble. You'd never seen him act so small before. It sort of broke your heart. "Your Highness, I think we should go now. You might catch a cold."
Alois said nothing. As you scooped him up into your arms and held him close to your chest, his long legs dangled in the air lifelessly. After a moment you felt him lay his head against your shoulder, his warm tears seeping into your shirt.
"Looks like the rain is stopping," you noted as you approached Trancy manor. Once more, Alois said nothing. You felt him exhale against your neck, his breath shaky and warm. You adjusted him a bit so that your arm was wrapped all the way around his shoulder and kicked open the gate. When you did so, a spray of raindrops splattered across your pants-leg. You sighed. "Home sweet home..."
As you placed Alois onto his bed, you turned and stretched out your aching shoulders. You pulled back the dark curtains and glanced out at the night sky. The silvery light of the moon was peering through gray storm-clouds; stars were twinkling like fireflies from between the thick accumulations of moisture and dust. A small smile played at your lips as you tossed the towel that you had grabbed on your way past the bathroom over your shoulder. "It's a lovely night, Your Highness."
Alois stared at the floor, his thick lashes shadowing his eyes. As you approached him and knelt in front of him, your tilted your head and began drying his hair. After a moment, you began humming a tune. As Alois turned his gaze to you, his eyes were hollow and lifeless. You began untying the charcoal colored ribbon that was tied around his slender neck as you sang,
"Come stop your crying, it will be alright
Just take my hand and hold it tight~
I will protect you from all around you
I will be here, don't you cry~"
With this you brushed away a tear from Alois' face and kissed his cheek.
"From one so small, you seem so strong
My arms will hold you, keep you safe and warm
This bond between us can't be broken~
I will be here, don't you cry~"
You folded Alois' hands between yours and stood. He watched you, his eyes a bit more alive as you released his hands and headed towards the oak dresser across the room. As you rummaged through the drawers, your mind flashed back to when you had first met Alois.
"You there! Girl!"
You glanced up at the boy before you. Platinum blond, azure eyes, a devilish smile. He was wearing a plum colored frock coat, a forest green vest with black stripes running down it, a white button-down shirt, and solid black shorts (that, in your opinion, were much too short). You arched an eyebrow curiously. "Can I help you?"
Alois' hand shot out and grabbed your wrist like a vice. You started to struggle, but something in his eyes made you stop. He smiled. "You're going to be my new maid now, okay~? You may call me 'Your Highness'."
~End of flashback~
A small smirk appeared on your face. Oh, how you hated calling him that. You had always found it to be a rather ostentatious title to give oneself. The smirk vanished and was replaced by a gentle smile, however, as your mind continued to roam. A collage of images; Alois smiling, dancing, commanding you to do things, they all flooded your thoughts. You took out a clean shirt for him to wear. It was a button-down that was at least three sizes too big for him. You snapped it in the air and smiled. As you approached Alois once more, he tilted his head as you began unbuttoning his shirt.
"'Cause you'll be in my heart~
Yes, you'll be in my heart~
From this day on, now and forever more~"
You slid his arms into the sleeves of the other shirt and began buttoning it. After a moment, his hands caught yours. You eyed him questioningly. "Y-You're not leaving," he said. His grip on your hands tightened. "I command you to stay here. You can't leave me alone."
You smiled and continued buttoning his shirt. "Yes, Your Highness."
"______?" Alois yawned. You sat propped against the headboard of the bed with your arm draped around Alois shoulder as he laid his head against your collarbone at the base of your neck. You brushed your fingertips against his hair idly.
"Finish singing that song." As usual, it was an order. You opened your mouth to reply, when he added, "Please..."
Your brows shot skyward. After a moment, you closed your eyes and laid your chin atop the boy's head. "Yes, Your Highness..."
As you finished the song, you glanced down at Alois. His breathing was slow and relaxed. His lips were parted; you could feel each exhale brush across your chest. You shook your head slowly. "Maybe there's hope for you yet."
You yawned. "Yes, Highness?"
"When I awake, you will fix me a full breakfast complete with brownies and a cupcake. Is that understood?"
You sighed. "Yes...Your Highness..."
