The Queen
(Ciel Phantomhive x Reader)

You stared at the pieces on the board with a serious expression.  Ciel had been pondering his next move for the past twenty minutes.  You were beginning to grow bored.  The tea had gotten cold and there were no more pecan divinities on the tray.  You sighed.
“_____, I have a question for you,” the earl spoke suddenly.
You glanced at him.  His sapphire eye was watching you carefully and the corners of his mouth were turned upwards slightly with amusement.  He rested his head against the back of his hand lazily.
“Yes?  What is it?”  You asked.
Ciel picked up the king.  He turned it over in his hand then pointed towards the board.  “If I were the king, who would you say the other pieces are?”
You blinked a few times.  That was an odd and rather random question.  You pondered his question for a moment.
“Hmm…I’d say that the knight would have to be Sebastian…and the queen, I’d say, would be Lady Elizabeth, yes?”
“Wrong,” Ciel answered flatly.  He frowned a bit, as if your answer had displeased him.  Then he sighed and stood.  You copied his motion, unsure of exactly how you had upset him.
“I beg your pardon,” you said quietly.  “I didn’t mean to…”
“I have paperwork to attend to.  Consider my question and give me a different answer tomorrow,” he interrupted.  You let your shoulders slump in defeat, but smiled.  That was so like the young Phantomhive.  He was politely kicking you out of his manor for the evening.
“Yes, Milord,” you sighed.
It was raining as you left the manor.  ‘It’s always so rainy here in London…’ you thought.  You had moved there a few years ago to stay with your father when your mother passed away.  When you heard of the tragedy that had befallen the young earl, you started visiting him regularly.  Once he found out you played chess, and played it well, he hardly ever let you leave before supper time.  But, considering the fact that your father worked almost all day, and you had nothing better to do, it didn’t really bother you.  You really looked forwards to your visits, actually…You liked seeing Ciel.    Even though you knew he was already engaged, you couldn’t help but form a bit of a crush on him.  And that was putting it mildly.  You thought about him almost constantly.  “What am I doing?”  You chastised yourself.  You blushed slightly.  “He isn’t interested, _____!  Stop thinking such silly thoughts!”

The next day you visited the earl and gave him a slightly different answer, with Elizabeth still being the queen.  Ciel seemed to grow a bit impatient with you and ordered you to leave earlier than usual.  You were confused, but you complied without any complaint.  “Come again tomorrow,” he said.  “And come as soon as possible.”
‘Does he even remember it’s my birthday tomorrow?’ you wondered as you walked home.  Thunder roared in the distance.  You sighed.

You dressed a bit fancier than usual since it was your birthday.  Your hair was tied back with a lovely ribbon that your father had given you and the dress that you wore was new.  As you entered Ciel’s study, you saw that the chess board was set up like usual.  However, under closer observation you noticed that one of the pieces was missing.  Ciel approached you.
“Good evening, ____,” he greeted you.  He handed you a small box.  “And happy birthday.”
You smiled brightly and took the present.  A blush presented itself on your face.  “You didn’t have to…”
“Open it,” Ciel demanded.
You nodded once and opened the lid to the box.  Your eyes widened.  Inside was the queen.  You took it out and passed it between your hands slowly.
“This is…”
“The answer to my question,” Ciel said.  “Will you be my queen?”
You blinked a few times.  “What about Lady Elizabeth?”
“I’ve already called off my engagement,” Ciel extended his hand to you expectantly.  You took it. “So what do you say?”
You were blushing furiously.  You nodded.  “Yes.  I’d love to be your queen.”
Ciel grinned.  “Good…after all, I’ve already planned the wedding…” He added the last part quietly.
You laughed and threw your arms around him.
“I love you, Ciel,” you said cheerfully.
“I love you too, _____.”

THE END
Okay...so I wrote this a couple of months ago and was a little iffy about putting it up, but my reader inserts have been pretty popular so far and I was like "What they heck!". I love Ciel n_n! He's just sooo cute. No funny ending like usual, but I hope you all enjoy it anyways. I look forwards to reading your comments and I hope you enjoy :D!
