The Other Girl
(Ciel Phantomhive x Reader)

(Author's note: I thought I'd add this note, because several people have been confused by the way I wrote this story.  The "I" is my OC character.  She is like a female Sebastian.  The "you" is your character.  I am so sorry to all of the people who were confused by this and I hope you enjoy my story n_n!)

You hadn’t known the young earl long.  You had met at a social gathering and stayed in touch but since you lived in South America with your father (he was a missionary), you never got to see one another.  You sent letters back and forth over the span of a few months and when summer rolled around, you decided to pay Ciel Phantomhive a visit.  A ‘surprise’ visit, if you will.  There was a plague running rampant through the village that you and your father were staying in, so your father agreed to the idea.  “God keep her safe…” He muttered to himself as you in your fancy (favorite color) dress struggled to carry your luggage out of the hut that you had been staying in.  You gave him a bright smile.

                             RING!  RING!  RING!
Sebastian sighed as Ciel summoned him once more into his study.  He and I were finishing up supper at the time (Bard was out buying groceries).  His jacket was hung on a nail on the wall and he had rolled up his sleeves so that no food would stain his crisp, white button-up.  I gave him a slight smile and dried my hands on a towel.  I opened my mouth to speak when the doorbell sounded loudly.  Sebastian and I exchanged a tired glance.
“I’ll get the door,” I sighed.
“I’ll go attend to the young master,” Sebastian nodded with a slight grin.  He snatched his jacket on his way out and started unrolling his shirt sleeves.
I too wore a butler’s uniform.  I refused to dress as a maid.  I found wearing a suit to be much more fun.  I was like the female Sebastian.  I also liked seeing the reactions of the guests.  Ciel didn’t seem to mind as long as I got my work done.  My jacket was slung across a chair towards the back of the kitchen.  I considered grabbing it before heading to the door, but decided not to.  I’d just have to take it back off again to finish fixing dinner.  So I approached the giant twin doors with my shirt-sleeves rolled, my hair fixed into a sloppy bun, and flower staining my forearms.  I pulled them open and peered out with an emotionless expression.  “May I help you?”
For a moment you just stood there with wide eyes.  You blinked a few times, unsure of what to make of me.  I sighed and tucked a piece of stray hair behind my ear.  “I don’t have all day, you know…”
“S-Sorry,” you stuttered.  “I’m here to see Ciel- I mean Mister Phantomhive.”
I arched an eyebrow and eyed you curiously.  I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned to see Sebastian standing over me.  A faint blush appeared on my cheeks.
“Miss _____, how nice to see you again,” he said with a cheerful, and completely fake, smile.  I cocked my head to the side questioningly.  “I’ll just take your bags.”
You smiled at the butler.  You had met him before at the social.  He seemed nice enough.  I rolled my eyes and tried to help Sebastian take your bags.
“No, no,” he grinned at me.  “You show the young lady to the guestroom.  I’ll go inform the young master that he has a visitor and be up shortly with the luggage.  I want for our guest to relax a bit before dinner.”  I nodded.  Sebastian leaned in closer.  His warm breath fanned the side of my face, causing me to stiffen and blush further.  “Make her feel at home.  You’re a girl.  Speak with her for a bit.”
I nodded.  I tried to swallow but found it almost impossible.  You tilted your head to the side and watched me with a timid expression.  I smiled and led you upstairs.
“So do you know the young master well?”  I asked with a bit of disinterest in my tone.  You looked around the room with wide eyes.  The walls were a beautiful shade of (preferred color) and the carpet was nice and plush.  The bed looked very inviting (your trip had been quite fatiguing) and you couldn’t wait to try some of the fruit that was placed on a tray on your dresser.  It was like Ciel was expecting you.  You smiled.
“We’ve been exchanging letters for a while now,” you explained.  “Have you been working for him long?”
“A while,” I shrugged.  I leaned against the doorframe.  It was sort of awkward, trying to start a conversation with someone that I didn’t really know.
“I can tell you’re quite fond of Sebastian,” you said cheerfully.  I blinked a few times as I felt my face turn three different shades of red.  I cleared my throat.
“Yes, well, I look up to him, you know?  He’s an incredible butler and…”
“And a very attractive man,” you added with a slight smile.
I returned it, my posture relaxing a bit.  Just then Sebastian entered the room carrying your luggage.
“The master is delighted that you are here,” he informed you as he placed your bags down.  “Would you like for us to help you unpack your things?  Or shall we leave you ‘til dinner?”
“I’ll unpack,” you said.  “You two just go do…whatever it is butlers do.”
I smiled.  “Call if you need anything, Milady.”

By the time dinner was ready you were practically starving.  The smell of (favorite meal) was overwhelming as you stepped into the large dining room.  Sebastian and I had already placed all of the food and silverware on the table.  We stood side-by-side watching with a satisfied look as you stared, awe-struck, at the elaborate meal before you.  “Bon apetite~,” I said with a slight bow.
No sooner had you smacked a spoonful of mashed potatoes on your plate then the young earl entered the room.  He was exactly the way you remembered him.  His single sapphire eye watched you intently while his face remained impassive.  He was wearing a dark blue suit that fit both his looks and his personality quite well.  Your heart skipped a beat.
“Mister Phantomhive,” you said as you stood and curtseyed.  Ciel allowed a small smile to grace his features as he seated himself at the head of the table and gestured for you to sit back down as well.  Conversation began immediately, breaking the former silence that had filled the manor since your arrival.  I gave Sebastian a smug glance, which he returned.
About half way through the meal, the doorbell rang interrupting your pleasant conversation.  I frowned slightly.  Was Ciel expecting another guest?  Sebastian held up a single, gloved hand to tell me to stay as he glided across the room with his usual swiftness and inhuman grace.  I watched him and sighed slightly.

After you and Ciel finished eating, I cleared the table and watched eagerly for the return of the devilishly handsome butler.  He did not return.  Ciel suggested that you continue enjoying each other’s company in the sitting-room, but I objected.
“It’s getting late, Milord,” I explained.  “I’m sure Lady ______ is probably tired from her long trip.  She’ll still be here tomorrow.  You’ll have plenty of time to chat then.”
Ciel sighed irritably and glanced at the clock.  He knew I was right.  You yawned softly.
“I am a bit worn out…tomorrow then?”
Ciel took your hand in his and gave it a gentle squeeze.  A small, almost non-existent smile appeared on his lips.  “Tomorrow.”

I led you to the guestroom in silence.  My thoughts surrounded Sebastian whereas yours were still lingering with Ciel.
“Goodnight, Lady _______,” I said as I closed the door quietly.  You smiled.  You were snuggled comfortably in the sheets of the bed that you had been eyeing earlier.  It was just as nice as you had hoped it would be.
“Goodnight.”

You would have slept soundly if it hadn’t been for the fact that you could hear arguing downstairs.  There was a nasally voice with a British accent yelling something about “cheating” and “how could you”.  Then it would be quiet…then it would start back up again.  You’d fall asleep, then it would wake you up again.  For the most part you slept well, however.

The next morning you headed downstairs without me or Sebastian as your escorts.  You saw a young girl with blond corkscrew curls that was wearing a poof-y pink dress.  She was stomping towards the door angrily with her luggage in her hands.  Sebastian held the door open for her.  She glared daggers at you.
“So YOU’RE the other girl?”  She snapped.  You blinked a few times, unsure as to how you might reply to such an accusation.
“I don’t…” Before you could finish, the girl grabbed the door from Sebastian and slammed it behind her.  You stared, dumbfounded, at the place that she had once been.  Sebastian gave you a reassuring smile.  “So he HAD been expecting a visitor…”
“She wasn’t supposed to come until late this afternoon,” Sebastian explained.  He shrugged.  “It’s all for the best, though, I suppose.”
“Ciel wishes to see you in his study,” my voice sounded unexpectedly.  You snapped your head behind you and saw me standing there with a small grin on my face.  “Shall I take you there?”
You nodded.  “Yes, please.”

Ciel was looking over some documents as you entered the study.  I closed the door behind you silently and pressed my ear it.  I was curious as to what was going on.  I felt a hand on my shoulder and whipped my head around to see Sebastian standing behind me.  He pressed his forefinger to his lips and smiled impishly.  I blushed and continued listening.
“Who was that girl who just left?”  You asked.  Part of you really didn’t want to know.  You weren’t stupid.  You had a few suspicions.
“My fiancé,” Ciel said as he tossed down the documents.  He sat back in his chair and laced his fingers together.  “More like ex-fiance…”
“Ex?”  I hissed.  I glanced up at Sebastian who eyed me with the same curious glance.  I pressed my ear closer to the door, straining to hear your reply.
“Ex?”  You asked.  “May I ask why?  Did…did I ruin your engagement?”
Ciel tilted his head to the side.  “I a manner of speaking, yes.”
Your heart sunk.  You cared about Ciel.  That was true.  You didn’t want to hurt him in any way.
“I’m so sorry…”
“Don’t be,” Ciel grinned.  “I didn’t love her.”
You paused for a moment.  “You didn’t?”
“No…I love you, _______,” Ciel said quietly.  “Would you consider staying here with me at Phantomhive manor?”
“SAY YES!”  A muffled voice called from outside of the room.  You and Ciel glanced at the door.  Sebastian clasped his hand over my mouth and pulled me away silently.
“Yes,” you smiled and stood.  Ciel seemed relieved.  He stood and walked around his desk so that he was standing in front of you.  He gave you a quick peck on the lips.  It was sort of cute.  Both of your faces burned scarlet.
“Now I’ll never get to know what she said!”  I complained.  Sebastian had finally stopped dragging me and was dusting a vase in the hall with his handkerchief.  He eyed it closely.
“You know what she said,” he said with a devious grin.  He glanced at me.  “Some things are just meant to be~.”
I blushed furiously.  My heart skipped a beat.  “I suppose so…”

THE END~
