“Yep…this looks like a good one!”  You exclaimed as you tore a small piece of paper from the job-board.  “Far away and it pays good money.  I’ll just tell Master Makarov and be on my…”

“Avoiding meeting up with Laxus?”  A familiar voice asked.  You jumped at how close the person was.  As you turned you saw Cana standing behind you with a knowing look on her face.  “I’ve heard a thousand stories as to why you two broke up.  What really happened?”

You opened your mouth, then closed it.  A small blush crept across your cheeks as you tried to think of yet another excuse for why you had left Laxus.  Well…why he had left you.  You always made it sound like he was the one who called it off, but in actuality, it was you who wanted to end things.  You loved Laxus, but just because you love someone doesn’t mean you have to like them necessarily.  It may not make sense to some people, but it did to you, and you didn’t feel like spilling out your heart to the whole guild about how you felt about the arrogant Dragonslayer.  Luckily for you, Loke interrupted.  He approached the board and straightened his shades.

“Fifty,” he said matter-of-factly.  You and Cana stared at him stupidly.  

“Whaaaaa?”

“She’s given exactly fifty reasons as to why she said goodbye,” he explained with a charming smile.

You opened your mouth to speak, but before any words could escape your mouth, you felt a gentle pressure against your hand as Loke gripped it between both of his.

“If you need a shoulder to cry on…I’m available~,” he offered.  “Well…except tomorrow afternoon around seven…I have a dinner date then…”

You smiled awkwardly and ripped your hand from his grip.  “I’m good, thanks.”

You turned on your heel and headed towards the door, your eyebrow twitching out of irritation.  ‘Fifty?’  You thought.  ‘Have I really given fifty reasons…?’  You tried counting them all in your head, but couldn’t remember all of the stories that you had come up with.  Why did you have to come up with so many stories?  Because no one seemed to believe any of them, and you had to keep thinking up new ones every time they asked.  

   You reached for the doorknob, but stopped as it was pulled out of your reach.  You were no longer staring at a thick oak door.  Instead your eyes trailed up a well-built torso encased in black.  You swallowed nervously.

“L-Laxus…”  You muttered.  The Dragonslayer’s gray-blue eyes watched you coldly, but after a moment his expression softened a bit.  This surprised you.

“______,” he greeted you kindly.  Laxus stepped aside and allowed you to pass.  You eyed him skeptically, your heart thudding erratically in your chest.  You couldn’t help but watch him over your shoulder as you walked.  “Be careful out there, okay?  I want…I want to talk to you when you get back.”

If the shock that you felt registered in your face, you must have looked pretty stupid as you muttered, “Yeah…alright…t-tell Master Makarov that I’m off, ‘kay?”

You didn’t wait for a response.  You merely took off down the streets of Magnolia.  Laxus watched you for a moment then turned.  He frowned slightly as he saw Cana staring at the job-board with a stern expression on her face.

“What is it?”  He asked.

“Sh…She took an A-Rank…”  Cana flashed Laxus a sickly glance.  “That job is far beyond her capabilities.  Or mine…”

Laxus’s frown deepened.  ‘______...’
